THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
"Critical thinking is to future generations, what memorization was to the previous ones."
Samantha Agoos
This video explains the necessity critical thinking plays in today's classrooms. Education has shifted focus from rote learning and the ability to retain and repeat information to problem-solving and critical thinking. Critical thinking skills are the skills that will prepare young people to navigate the real world outside of school. This video here provides a structured framework that teachers can use when teaching this skill. However, as I watched the video it was evident that the very steps suggested were that of the Scientific Method!
The scientific methodology provides the framework for developing critical thinking skills. It allows students to practice higher-order thinking that is necessary for developing critical thinking skills.
The scientific method helps students question and understand why things are the way they are and thinking critically and analytically at problems and questions.

Today's students are under a steady barrage of information, particularly from online sources, friends, parents, and media. It quickly has become evident that students need to learn how to evaluate, questions and research what they are exposed to every day. By using the scientific method and teaching students the process, teachers provide students with capabilities needed to not only navigate this world but improve this world.
What is the Scientific Method?

The scientific method is a process that follows a series of steps. The goal of the process is to discover sauce and effect relationships by asking questions, carefully gathering and examining the evidence, and seeing if all the available information can be combined into a logical answer.
Steps of the Scientific Method:
1. Ask a Question
2. Do Background Research
3. Construct a Hypothesis
("If__(I do this)__, then___(this) ____ will happen.")
4. Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment
5. Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
6. Communicate Your Results
